Bo Diddley said he appreciated all the honors he received over the years, including appearances before two presidents. But he once said those honors: “didn’t put no figures in my checkbook.”
It was that combination of talent and straight talk that helped inspire many other musicians over the years. Diddley passed away yesterday. He was 79 and his spokeswoman says he died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Florida.
Diddley suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke robbed him of his ability to speak.
Diddley was best known for his home-made square guitar, dark glasses and black hat. He was inducted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, and received a lifetime achievement award in 1999 at the Grammy Awards.

They were married this past Friday in a small, intimate ceremony in front of 60 guests and now Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller are all about the Honeymoon.
According to reports, the happy newlyweds left Sunday for a 10-day trip to Costa Rica, the site of Sheen’s proposal to Mueller last summer.
Apparently the rugged mountain terrain and beautiful beaches made quite an impression on the couple. A source told press, “They love the landscape there and were eager to go back.” Then again, a $500,000 engagement ring can make any place memorable!
As for their wedding, the select group of family and friends enjoyed appetizers prior to the ceremony, and a three-course meal afterwards. A witness told press, “The wedding was simple, casual, and sweet. The wedding cake was white with beautiful birds on it.”

In short, no. Coming from west Philly and northeast DC to Costa Rica – I feel very safe here.
Now that we’re in San Jose for a month, I feel the need to address the safety issue. We were warned profusely about the dangers of San Jose – so much so that in our first two nights here, we strapped all our money onto our stomachs in little pouches and didn’t go out after 6pm! We’re over that phase now, but we were so freaked out by what everyone had told us.
Small towns in Costa Rica are like small towns in the USA. Small. Slower pace. Safe. Friendly. Cities in Costa Rica are like cities in the USA. Big. Dirty. Fast. More dangerous than small towns, but usually ok.
