A Different Palmares?

January 27th, 2009 | by admin |

At 6 p. m., on Wednesday, January 21, the fairground where the Palmares civic celebrations are held was brightened.

After being postponed one week because of the earthquake on January 8, the festivities began. This time, the activity will last a total of 12 days. It will have particular additions.

To promote order and security, the Palmares Civic Association, together with the Costa Rican Brewery, are implementing strict control measures.

The consumption of alcohol, which this fair cannot do without, will be regulated by actions such as liquor promotions in the tents by volume.

In the concert area, people will not be able to get with coolers, and the riders participating in the horse parade will not be given alcoholic beverages.

The actual amount of security forces that are present in the fairground was doubled from those in the previous editions. On this occasion, there will be 500 officers guarding the people.

There have been those who criticize the fact that the fair is being held a few days after there was an earthquake in Costa Rica which caused fatalities.

”This is a form of solidarity with the people of Costa Rica,” said William Vasquez, president of the Palmares Civic Association, when he confirmed the change of dates.

The celebrations will donate a percentage to the victims of the earthquake that hit several towns in Alajuela.

On the same subject, Oscar Umaña, from SC Productions, said, “We were already putting things up here before the earthquake happened. You could say that we had to continue, unfortunately, or perhaps that fortunately we are here.”

Umaña coordinates the artists that will be coming to the Marlboro tent for the fair.

In this respect, there were modifications in the last few days with regards to the guests coming to this establishment. It was confirmed that Tego Calderón is coming on Saturday, January 31. In addition, the Pericos will not play on January 30. Instead of the Argentines, Beto Cuevas, former lead singer of the Chilean group La Ley, will play

Other new inclusions are the national artists that will be presented at the Imperial Bar. Among the guests, there will be a combination of Costa Rican musicians for two nights under the name “The Gallo Pinto” All Stars.

Pee Wee and Calle 13 remain as the exponents who will play in the free concerts.

With less liquor, some annoyance among a few people and a select list of guests from abroad, Palmares 2009 began.

What remains to be seen is whether the changes in the traffic law have some effect on the roads and accidents can be avoided like those that are so common in Costa Rica because of drunk drivers.

The TicosLand.com team expects that those who attend and wish to have a drink will take heed of the recommendations that are provided so that they do not cause accidents, there are many ways to travel to and return from Palmares safely. This year a large number of companies are offering transport. If you don’t want to use the transport, then go with friends who don’t drink.
