Narrow wins for Costa Rica, Canada

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Costa Rica and Canada both picked up narrow victories in Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Costa Rica edged out ten-man Jamaica 1-0 before Canada beat El Salvador by the same scoreline in the doubleheader in Columbus, Ohio.

Jamaica had played well after Rudolph Austin was shown a straight red card for his tackle on Celso Borges in the 35th minute, but eventually succumbed when Borges got on the end of Pablo Herrera’s cross to slide the ball past Donovan Ricketts in the 64th minute.

The second game of the night was settled by Ali Gerba’s goal on 31 minutes as Canada joined Costa Rica at the top of the group.

The leading pair will meet in the second round of group games on Friday, the same night that Jamaica and El Salvador will meet with both teams needing three points.

Honduran rivals to meet in Costa Rica

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Deposed Honduran president Manuel Zelaya is to meet on Thursday with the country’s interim leader amid talk that a congressional amnesty could clear the way for Zelaya’s return.

The two days of talks between Zelaya and Roberto Micheletti, who have both insisted that they will not “negotiate”, are being hosted by Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, at his home in San Jose.

“It seems to me that there is willingness on both sides to seek a negotiated settlement through diplomacy, through dialogue,” Arias said on Wednesday.

But both Zelaya and Micheletti – who was sworn in by Congress just hours after Zelaya’s removal in a coup – have made public statements suggesting the contrary.

“We’re not going to negotiate, we’re going to talk,” Micheletti said on Wednesday, as Zelaya told Chilean television that the meeting would plan “the exit of the coup leaders” and described his political opponent as a “thug”. (more…)

Her cousin came to her with information about biomedical intervention.

But Marty was worried she had waited too long. (more…)

‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It.. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. ‘
