Public Employees To Have Time Off To Watch Soccer Game

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Costa Rican president, Oscar Arias is a faultless soccer fan and strong supporter of the “selección” (national soccer team), Saturday night he was seen in his red jersey to support the “muchachos”, bringing the a lucky night against Trinidad & Tobago.

And as such yesterday he said that all public sector employees will have 3 hours off during the day tomorrow (Tuesday) to watch the Sub 20 semi-final game against Brazil.

The game is on at noon time and public sector employees will have time off until 3pm to watch the game at work or wherever.

In a possible repeat of the World Cup games, many companies – public and private – set up a common area for employees to watch the game and return to work. If they are allowed to go home (or wherever), it is quite likely that the majority will not return to work.

It is not known how this will effect public services. We can only surmise that many functions will slow down even more tomorrow.

If the Selección wins on Tuesday they will move on to the finals against either Hungary or Ghana.

If you have any business with a public agency on Tuesday, best is to do it before noon or wait until Wednesday.
