Jaco Beach Home to New Professional Soccer Team

Friday, July 30th, 2010

jaco-beach-home-to-new-professional-soccer-team.pngSoccer, futbol, whatever you want to call it, Jaco Beach now has it!

Jaco will be home to a new professional soccer team called the Jaco Rays. The team was purchased by a local developer who hopes to improve the team and win its division in order to move up to the first division where it can play popular teams like Saprissa and La Liga. For now the Rays will play in the League de Acenso, the Second Division. At the end of the year, the team with the worst record in First Division drops down to Second Division and is replaced by the winner of the Second Division Championship.

As you can imagine locals are all very excited to have the team. Last year we saw just what kind of support this area can provide when the Puntarenas team had to move a few games and play in the Jaco stadium. The seats were full for all of those games and gave a glimpse of the future of soccer in Jaco Beach. The new owner feels that this is going to not only be a great gift for the Jaco community but a fun activity for soccer fans visiting from all parts of the world.

Johnny Perez and general manager Carlos Esquivel, announced that the coach will be Wilmer “El Pato” Lopez, a very popular retired player from the San Jose area. El Pato started his training plan earlier this month at the Jaco Stadium.

If you weren’t already aware, Soccer is clearly the most watched and played sport in Costa Rica. I definitely encourage you to see a game the next time you come down, GO RAYS!

Caution advised for weekend drivers on Caldera Highway

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Autopistas del Sol, the operator of the Caldera Highway, has issued a warning to all drivers using the roadway this holiday weekend.

The company said it is expecting excessive holiday traffic along the 77-kilometer highway that stretches from San José to the Pacific port of Caldera, and although pedestrians are prohibited along the highway, many may attempt to travel the route during the annual pilgrimage to the Basílica de los Ángeles in Cartago.

There should be a large number of vehicles that travel this route, said Claudio Pacheco, the highway’s Sub-Director for Maintenance. The speed limits will be reduced and all access for pedestrians, cyclists, ox-carts and horses is prohibited. However, it is probable that people living in Orotina, Atenas, El Coyol and other located along the new highway will attempt to use the route for travel to Cartago.

Monday is a national holiday and, in addition to high participation in the romería, national travel is expected to be up as well.

To contact the Caldera Highway Control Center, call 2258-4040.

Getting Quality Internet Services in Costa Rica – RACSA

Friday, July 30th, 2010

The internet is really the way of the future and with more and more companies bringing their services online there is really no way to get around using the internet. In Costa Rica like in most other countries from around the world, the decision to get internet to your home or office can lead you down the wrong path simply because there are so many internet service providers. This is why it is of a great importance to ponder your choices wisely before making the final decision.

Of course, the best possible choice is to go for the well established providers, such as Amnet Costa Rica or ICE Costa Rica internet, that have excellent track records and the experience required to provide its customers with all the support needed. There are two main features that every internet connection must have and these are quality and speed. With the level of technology growing under our very eyes, the sizes of the transfers between computers connected to the internet rises each year and this is why it is quite a big deal to get a connection that is able to sustain large transfers both nationally and internationally. Family says dog tried to pull baby out of burning home

Friday, July 30th, 2010

family-says-dog-tried-to-pull-baby-out-of-burning-home.jpgThe Red Cross is calling a Bristol pit bull a hero after he alerted his family to a fire, and even tried to pull a 3-month-old baby girl away from the danger.

The fire started around 3 a.m. Thursday in a hallway and quickly spread throughout the home.

It sounds like the real hero here is the family pit bull, Apparently ‘Thor’ woke the family up and even tried to pull the baby and bassinet out of the house. Lately we have learned how important pets can be to a family, and this is as stark an example as I’ve ever seen.”

The family says Thor barked and jumped on them until they woke up. Then he grabbed the baby’s bassinet and dragged it to the front door.

“He’s the hero today. He’s the man,” said Kemper Hunter, Thor’s owner. “We turned around to look for the bassinet that was at the head of the bed, and it’s at the door. All we got to do is open the door and go out. Thor’s like ‘Let’s roll, dad! It’s time to go, I got you.’”

No one in the family was injured, but their home was heavily damaged. The Red Cross is providing short-term housing as well as food, blankets, clothing and a crib for the baby.

One important consideration before delving in to this subject, is the fact that everyone has their own opinions which vary according to their own experiences.
