The new ¢20.000 colones bill will be available in a couple of weeks, September 22 in fact, according to Marvin Alvarado, treasurer of the Banco Central (Central Bank).
The bill was ready to be introduced last month, but within days of its introduction, flaw in its security was discovered and the project postponed to allow for a review of all the bills.
Alvarado says that 1.2 million of the 10 million bills have been inspected, enough for a release since the initial expected demand will not pass 800.000 bills.
The treasurer said the release will be gradual to allow people to get to know the new bill.

Telefonica, Spain’s largest telephone company, says it will not let the opportunity to expand into Costa Rica’s cellular market pass by, confirming it will be one of the companies bidding for one of the three available licenses.
Also expected to tender their bid are America Movíl, Millicom (Amnet), Cable & Wirless and Digicel.
Each of three winners will be required to ante up us$70 million dollars to Costa Rica and compete with the state telecom, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE).
The winning bids will be announced in November and operators are required to be up and running by September 2011.

A California woman reported last week that she had been scammed out of about $86,000 to scammers in Costa Rica.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said, the woman, told deputies that she had received a call telling her that she won a sweepstakes from Las Vegas.
After being told she needed to pay fees and taxes, they said, the woman began sending thousands of dollars. The sheriff’s office said she was later told she won a larger amount and that she had to pay more fees and taxes.
They said the woman was given “sponsors,” later determined as other victims of the scam, who sent her money which she then forwarded to Costa Rica for the purpose of paying lesser taxes.
The sheriff’s office said the woman lost about $86,000 in the scam.

Traveling through the canal, the sides of these ships nearly clear the locks that use on average 52 million gallons of water in each chamber as they eventually lift and lower vessels 170 feet as they go from the Caribbean to the Pacific during the nine-hour trip.
On the Two-Day Canal Experience, which is available on longer cruises, guests journey through the Canal, including the Miraflores, Pedro Miguel and Gatun Locks. During a second day in Panama at Fuerte Amador, guests can ride the Panama Canal Railway, visit the rainforest, explore an authentic Embera Indian village or tour Panama City’s center.
In addition to the canal, guests can take advantage of itineraries calling in the Caribbean, Mexican Riveria resort town and several ports in Central America. In Costa Rica, passengers can see the tropical rain forests, visit coffee plantations and enjoy white sand coastlines in view of the mountains. In the fishing village of San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua, visitors can relax on the white-sand beaches and visit nearby Granada, the oldest city in Central America.
Panama Canal Two-Day Experience Cruises
Three itineraries aboard Coral Princess and Island Princess includes a full Panama Canal voyage and a full day at Fuerte Amador on the Pacific side of Panama. The 14-day itinerary travels between FortLauderdale and Los Angeles with calls at Aruba, Cartagena and Puntarenas in Costa Rica, following the Two-Day Canal Experience.

The expansion work of the Liberia airport is expected to begin next month, following several months of delays.
The company Coriport SA has won the contract to build a 23.000 square meter building that will have boarding gates and fully air conditioned.
The work will increase the capacity of the Daniel Oduber International airport in Guanacaste at a cost of us$27 million dollars.
