ATM Machines
ATM is the way to go, but bring a few hundred in USD $20 if you want.
BEWARE: The issuing bank of your CC or Debit Cards charges Foreign Transaction Fees (FTF) and also NON Network Fees (NNF) as well as bank ATM you use, though that is minimal, and calculated on the Exchange Rate give or take 2-4%,
Your Bank car can charge from 3% to 18% on a Foreign Transaction or Foreign withdrawal, in addition to a NNF of $3 minimum.
So if you take out $100, and you get slapped with a NNF of $3, and a $8 FTF, your paying 11% to get your money out, which the average trip here over 10 days you spend $1000, so $100 in fees is nuts. Know before you Go!
BCR ATM’s in most tourist areas offers you Local Colones or USD as well. ATM’s are around Jaco, Manual Antonio (Quepos), La Fortuna (Arenal), Liberia, Tamarindo, Samara, Nosora, Montezuma, Dominical, Pt Jimenez, Limon, Pt Viejo, I think Cahuita now, and all major hubs like Liberia, Upala, San Isidro, Santa Cruz, Grecia, Sarchi, San Ramon, basically any decent sized town with busses and a bustling market.
