Prostitution

It is truly impossible to have any web site that claims to cover all of Costa Rica, and leave off the adult activities that are available here. It is estimated that up to at least 20% of all visitors that come to Costa Rica have this as all or part of their motivation to visit this beautiful country.
It should be noted that, www.Top10CostaRica.com neither endorses nor promotes prostitution. However, since it IS legal, we do find a need to inform the public. And that’s what this website is all about which is providing relevant information for you, the traveler.
Overview
Prostitution IS legal in Costa Rica. The activity is legal simply because there is no law against it. And just to make things clear: in Costa Rica, if there is no law prohibiting something, it is legal. Unlike the US where the government decides career choices for its citizens here the people decide for themselves. The Costa Rican ladies are free to offer their services of sex, as long as it is not any part of a “pimping” style situation or an under aged lady (-18) for both are highly illegal here.
Most ladies of the night in CR are there to better their economic situations and care for their families. Some will work only a few days per month, while others make it a career choice. You could find a woman from Nicaragua, Argentina, Venezuela, Columbia, and Dominican Republic and of course local ladies or as they are called here: ticas. So if you’re looking for a lady with either light skin, dark skin or anything in between you can find it here.
What to expect
For the most part, the ladies of the night are very professional which means you get right down to business when they come to your room and once paid, they are out the door. The Costa Rican women are passionate in bed and will put on a good performance. Most if not all the ladies will insist on condom usage, which is a great idea unless you’d like to risk it. There are enough places (bars, strip joints, massage parlors, and free lancers) to keep a single man happy. Certainly, if you come to Costa Rica, you can expect to have no problems getting laid 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Women
As stated before, you can find all types of women in CR. Besides Costa Ricans, or ticas as they are preferred to be called, you can find Filipinas, Russians and other Europeans. The Colombians and other South Americans are more likely to speak a little English although; I have met many natives who can speak multiple languages including English. The locals who do learn English are usually driven for one reason only, so they can work the higher-priced gringo bars like the Beatle bar in Jaco beach or the Del Ray in San Jose city and charge $100 a night.
Costa Rican women come in all shapes and sizes and can range anywhere from busty blondes to petite brunettes. You can find ladies with virtually any eye color including blue, green or brown. Some dye their hair blonde to attract more attention while others leave it natural.
Be sure to remember that most of the ladies down here will only speak Spanish or very little English, so before you get here be sure to brush up on your Spanish! It really does make the conversations with the fine ladies of Costa Rica go a whole lot easier.
Cost
The price for sex varies from lady to lady, but the average cost for a hooker out of the bars is about $100 for something quick. This price can double or triple if you take a lady out of the strip clubs or higher class bars. A street lady may go with you for as little as $20 to $30 if you know what you’re doing.
Legal
Prostitution in Costa Rica is legal – though pimping and the prostitution of minors under 18 is not. In the U.S. sex workers have a negative connotation, whether it is streetwalkers, massage ladies or escorts. In Costa Rica all Costa Ricans of age will carry a “cedula” (identification) with her picture and birth date. For foreigners i.e. Nicaraguans, Panamanians, etc. ask to see her passport.
The age of consent in Costa Rica is 18 for both men and women and that includes gay or heterosexual interaction.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: If anyone is thinking about coming to Costa Rica because they heard it was a good place to have relations with children, I would think again for it is more than frowned upon.
The government here does not tolerate it, nor do the people, and there is a very active enforcement effort to eradicate it. You will never know if the person you are talking to is undercover, and there are really good sting operations that net a lot of these people each year. So the message is: fool around with kids and you may never go home because you WILL go to jail for about 25 years..
Costa Rica uses an antiquated version of Napoleonic law. In Costa Rica, the law is not “innocent until proven guilty” as in the US and many other countries. Here, it is more like “innocent for now, but you are still going to jail, without bail, for a year or so while courts put their case together to prove you ARE guilty”.
Important note: Bringing hookers to your apartment is tempting but dangerous.
Buyers beware, it is becoming more common to hear of man being robbed and sometimes killed in their hotel here. They all have the same MO. They pick up ladies and bring them room. Not just one but many. This, of course, increases the odds that the lady they do bring home will have more ambitious plans than just earning money for sex.
Tips to Americans with the same MO:
Don’t bring strange women home. Get to know them first. We have plenty of love motels in Costa Rica, they are inexpensive and the lady doesn’t see where you live and what you have.
Ask the lady where she is from and be especially careful of foreign women. So if you are planning to pick one up, don’t carry an excess of money and leave your credit cards at home.
